Mushroom - Red & Blue Discosoma
The Discosoma Mushroom Coral shares similar care requirements as other mushroom corals and prefers a mature reef aquarium system with low light levels and low to medium water movement. The Discosoma Mushroom Coral is fairly forgiving when it comes to water quality and tolerates slight fluctuations and less-than-ideal water parameters. However, it is important to always strive to maintain high overall aquarium water quality. The Discosoma Mushroom Coral is semi-aggressive and requires adequate space between itself and other corals. It reproduces through longitudinal fission, but also can be easily propagated (fragged) by experienced reef hobbyists.
The Discosoma Mushroom Coral satisfies the majority of its nutritional requirements by means of photosynthetic, symbiotic zooxanthellae algae hosted within its body. However, it will benefit from supplemental feedings in the form of micro-plankton, brine shrimp, and other foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates, making sure you fed to each polyp of the colony. For continued good health, your Discosoma Mushroom Coral will also benefit from the addition of calcium, magnesium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
