Oxymonacanthus longirostris

The Orange Spotted Filefish is commonly referred to as the Harlequin Filefish, Longnose filefish, Beaked Leatherjacket. With its beautiful color and unique design, it makes a gorgeous addition to any tank and captivates the onlookers. It is found to feed on live corals, thereby it might not be considered safe for a reef tank. The Orange Spotted Filefish requires moderate care and that is why it is only recommended for an advanced aquarist. It is a shy fish and hardly turns aggressive towards other fishes except for those of its own genus.

It is best to keep the Orange Spotted Filefish in a tank of 30 gallons or more along with plenty of swimming space. The Orange Spot Filefish will acclimate better in a large reef aquarium with a large growth of stony corals. It also needs lot of hiding place in the aquarium, so that it can hide when frightened. The Orange Spotted Filefish thrives well in a temperature range of 73-84 degrees Fahrenheit and pH of 8.2-8.4. The Orange Spotted Filefish might turn aggressive towards other filefish and should be kept singly or with a truly mated pair. It is best to keep it in a peaceful, fish-only community aquarium.

The Orange Spotted Filefish should be especially fed with vitamin enriched frozen foods that help in maintaining the color of the body.
